OUR TEAM

Meet the people behind the wine.
    Mike Eaton

Favourite grape – whatever is a challenge

    Mike Eaton
Viticulture/Winemaker – I am passionate about wine, heritage & family.

After 30 years in the Marlborough wine industry, I continue to strive for wines that are truly expressive of their origin and are made in a very natural way that allows for reduced use of preservatives, reduced processing and eliminates the need for fining. After a vintage in Sancerre and Burgundy in 2011, I gained invaluable experience working with the Pinard family (Bue/Sancerre), Nicholas Rossignol (Volnay/Beaune) and valuable time with luminaries like Benjamin Dagueneau (Pouilly), Alphonse Mellot (Sancerre). I would like our wines to express my local knowledge combined with that new knowledge and experience.
    Jo Eaton

Favourite grape – Merlot, Cabernet and Malbec or anything that goes into Champagne

    Jo Eaton
Jo has been by my side since 1991 when we were first married and started the process of planting the Clayvin Vineyard and the many years as marketing and admin for TerraVin. Always there when needed at harvest and in the tastings, of course.
    Harrison Eaton

At only 11 Harrison started a science project exploring whether wines degenerate faster in different coloured glass! Giving us a suspicion Harrison would enter the wine industry. After being in the local Marlborough vineyards he left for Auckland under the care of the of the Poole family at FWDC. Despite being the youngest member of their tasting team the vineyards have called him back to Marlborough.

    Harrison Eaton
After many vintages in the grapes and winery and far too many tastings; and at 11 years old a science project exploring whether wines degenerate faster in different coloured glass!!! There was always a suspicion Harrison would enter the wine industry. After some time in the local Marlborough vineyards he spent 2 years in Auckland under the care of the of the Poole family at FWDC. Despite being the youngest member of their tasting team the vineyards were calling him back to Marlborough. He is currently out in the vineyard awaiting vintage 2017 at Giesen.
    Blake Eaton

Favourite grape- Sauvignon Blanc (normally consumed from under the nets)

    Blake Eaton
At only 17 Blake is our design and IT guy. While happy to help pressing or bottling his real talents are closely linked to his Macbook.

Our Difference

Process

Our simple approach to the winemaking process allows the vineyard & nature to be expressed in each wine. This minimal processing allows us to make each wine a true reflection of variety and site.

Heritage

NZ is a young wine nation, it is important we honour the land and our surroundings. Our wines endeavour to embody the sense of place and time respecting and adding to this heritage.

Family

Our family has grown up surrounded by wine and vineyards. As our children grow up, being able to work together as a family to create wine is just one of life’s pleasures.

Enjoyment

Wine making is story telling. Every wine should tell something about where it was grown, how it was made & the vintage. Each wine should be a unique expression of time & place.
